School Board approves new Carter school
In a 6-3 vote the Knox County School Board voted to approve the plan to build a new Carter elementary school.
Voting for the East Knox County new school were board Chairwoman Indya Kincannon, Cindy Buttry, Thomas Deakins and Kim Sepesi. Karen Carson originally voted no but changed her vote after it was apparent the measure was going to pass.
Voting no were Gloria Deathridge, Lynne Fugate and Pam Trainor
In June, County Mayor Tim Burchett announced his plan to sell county property to raise $11.3 million for a new school. The school board would be responsible for chipping in the $2.5 million it had designated for renovations – bringing the price tag to construct the building to $13.8 million.
The school’s completion between June 1, 2013 and July 15, 2013
